Cleaning Guide (Display Cover)

Nothing beats the sight of a crisp, clear display cover showing off your favorite city. The following guide explains the simple yet effective steps you can take to keep your display cover clean - so you can continue enjoying an unobstructed view of your favorite skyline.

Acrylic Display Cover

Acrylic is lightweight, shatter-resistant, and offers excellent clarity—but it’s also more prone to scratching than glass if cleaned improperly. Regular glass cleaners usually contain ammonia or alcohol, which can damage acrylic.

Use an Acrylic-Specific or Mild Soap Solution
  • Avoid any ammonia- or alcohol-based cleaners (typical in most standard glass cleaners).
  • If you don’t have an acrylic-safe product, you can make a gentle solution by mixing a few drops of mild dish soap with lukewarm water.
Dust First
  • Using a soft, microfiber cloth, gently remove any loose dust or particles.
  • Do not apply pressure—allow the cloth to lift dust rather than push it around.
Wipe Gently
  • Spray or dab your acrylic-safe cleaning solution onto a clean microfiber cloth, not directly on the acrylic, to avoid seepage and streaks.
  • Using light, circular motions, wipe the surface to remove smudges and fingerprints.
Dry Thoroughly
  • Take a second dry microfiber cloth and gently buff the acrylic to remove any remaining moisture or streaks.
  • Inspect in natural light and repeat if necessary.
Preventing Scratches
  • Whenever you remove or reposition the cover, lay it on a clean, soft surface (like a towel).
  • For light maintenance between thorough cleanings, give it a quick dust with a soft cloth to prevent buildup.

Glass Display Cover

Glass covers are heavier and offer high scratch resistance, making them a popular choice for long-term display. However, you still want to treat glass with care.

Choose a Glass-Safe Cleaner (Avoid Ammonia if Possible)
  • Standard, ammonia-free glass cleaners are typically safe for most glass display covers.
  • If you prefer a natural solution, a mild soapy water mix works just as well.
Dust Before Applying Cleaner
  • Use a microfiber cloth to remove surface dust so that debris doesn’t scratch the glass during cleaning.
Spray, Then Wipe
  • Lightly mist the glass cleaner onto the glass or onto your cloth.
  • Wipe with a gentle, circular motion using a clean microfiber or lint-free cloth.
Buff Dry
  • Use a fresh area of the cloth (or a second cloth) to remove any moisture or streaks.
  • Check under good lighting for any spots you may have missed.

General Tips for Both Acrylic & Glass

  • Two Cloths Are Better Than One: Have one cloth for the cleaning solution and another for drying, so you don’t keep reintroducing moisture or residue.
  • Avoid Paper Products: Paper towels, tissues, or newspapers can leave lint or cause fine scratches, especially on acrylic.
  • Protect Your 3D Model: When removing the cover for cleaning, place it on a stable, clean surface away from your 3D model to avoid accidental damage.
  • Periodic Maintenance: Give your cover a quick dust every once in a while. This prevents heavy buildup of dirt or grime that would require more rigorous cleaning.

By following these steps, you’ll ensure that your display cover stays spotless—and that your 3D City remains the center of attention.
